"Alyson Montez was a wonderful first violin teacher for my son. She treated him with kindness, was fun, and conducted her lessons very professionally. Alyson not only provided my son with knowledge of how to play and read music, she kept him engaged in practicing and introduced him to composers he now listens to on his own time. I highly recommend Alyson Montez as a Violin instructor."

The electric violin was invented nearly a century ago - so where are all the teachers?! Classicaly trained under the instruction of musicians including Eric Halen (Houston Symphony), Andrzej Grabiec (University of Houston), Laura Bossert (Longy) and Peter Issacson (Hardin-Simmons University), Alyson has always had a passion for the electrified side of music. Mentored by Mark Wood (Trans-Siberian Orchestra) and experienced in both acoustic and electric performance, Alyson is now available as an electric violin teacher, as well as the traditional acoustic.

Her teaching style focuses on a strong core in both classical and rock, and utilizes both the Suzuki method and popular rock songs, as well as encouraging creativity and a unique understanding of musical structure through improvisation. Alyson tailors lesson plans to meet each student's individual tastes, whether they're a fan of Jimi Hendrix or John Williams, and will make sure you get a healthy dose of classical repertoire as well. Her goal is to prepare students for the changing world of string music, in which musicians need to be adaptable to many different styles and genres of playing, as well as keeping things interesting for players who are interested in trying something a little different.

Lessons with electric instruments will also include instruction in how to choose, use and maintain electric instruments and gear, so you can go on stage with confidence that you'll sound good and be able to make informed choices using the knowledge you've gained from your lessons.
